Faces of the Fest – Arts 2019

They say it takes a village to raise a child, the same could be said for a festival. Since it’s earliest days success the World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) has been a product of the hard work, passion and dedication of the many people working behind the scenes to make it happen.

To keep the creative juices flowing this spring, a crew of sparkling new event producers have come on board to continue to evolve their respective events. To help you get to know them a little better we’ve put together a who’s who of this year’s festival producers. Want to see their hard work in action? Don’t forget to pick up tickets to your favourite events. Tickets are on sale and going fast.

MULTIPLICITY presented by Mountain Life Media

If our mountains could talk, they would have thousands of tales of adventure and exploration to share. Since they can’t, we’ve gone to the second-best source, Mountain Life Media. For this year’s Multiplicity presented by Mountain Life Media, they’ve curated an all-star lineup of inspiring outdoors people to share their stories and perspectives.

Event Producer and Publisher/ Co-Owner of Mountain Life Media Todd Lawson has searched far and wide to bring speakers that present both interesting and diverse perspectives.

Pro Photographer Showdown

Over the years the Pro Photographer Showdown has hosted some of the world’s top action sport and lifestyle photographers. Tasked with taking a whole career’s worth of imagery and distilling it down to their all-time favourite images capturing sport, culture and the human spirit is no easy task, but the results are consistently breathtaking.

Event producer Holly Fraser is no stranger to creating beautiful and inspiring imagery. Holly is the head, heart and soul of Execution Media Mgmt, a Whistler-based boutique production firm that works locally and around the world. Execution’s client list includes major car companies, clothing lines and adventure gear brands, all of which benefit from Holly’s poise, professionalism and creative instincts that she’s been honing since her days studying photography and media at Ryerson University School of Image Arts.

This year marks Holly’s first year of at producing the Pro Photographer Showdown, an event Holly has been drawn to since she moved to Whistler more than a decade ago. Prior to founding Execution in 2011, Fraser worked in creative agencies, ran a photo/art gallery & event space, and traveled the world campaigning to raise awareness for animal rights.

Beyond her professional life, Holly is a personal a force of nature who can melt metal with her mind or mend a broken heart with her kindness. She’s a compassionate friend, known for constantly steps up in times of emotional upheaval, and as the person you count on and call on when life isn’t making sense or when a fallen friend needs to be honoured but no one has the strength to set the wheels in motion.

In her free time Holly is usually found chilling at her home in Pemberton, out exploring the beautiful world on her dirt bike, mountain bike or sled, or walking her three-legged rescue dog and planning the next adventure.

Swatch 72 Hr Filmmaker Showdown

Over the span of just 72 insane hours, local filmmakers are tasked with shooting, editing and producing a complete short film. Like coal pressed into diamonds, the pressure of this format has turned out some real gems over the years. With completed films as diverse and unexpected as the Sea to Sky residents themselves, you’ll never know what the next show may bring.

In charge of wrangling the madness, Event Producer Angie Nolan brings the professional experience and love for film needed to take this event to even higher heights. A long time Whistlerite and 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown alumni, Angie Nolan is a trained thespian and filmmaker who has directed and acted in a number of her own film & theatre projects, including a screening at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Angie is a recipient of both the 2018 Women in Film & Television Vancouver’s Spotlight Awards (CA) – Leadership in Education Award and the 2018 Whistler Excellence Awards (CA): Champion of Arts and Culture Award.  Angie is a creative force, always active in Whistler’s growing theatre/improv/film arts community where she writes, directs, acts and teaches.

CLIF Intersection in association with Protect Our Winters Canada

Clif Intersection in association with Protect Our Winters Canada includes a showcase of killer ski and snowboard edits, while supporting a cause close to every skier and riders’ hearts.

With just seven days to shoot produce and edit their 5-7 minute ski/snowboard film these teams have put in (often literally) blood sweat and tears to make these inspiring films.

New at the helm, Event Producer Ryan Proctor will bring a new fresh prospective to this locally beloved event. Proctor is a Whistler personality with long hair and a longer rap sheet. From his early days as a pivotal member of Whistler Blackcomb’s marketing team to his current role as cannabis marketing guru and emerging podcast host, the man whose last name “Proctor” precedes him is a multi-talented producer of hilarious and engaging content.

He founded a new era for Whistler Blackcomb’s athlete and film program back when things like that mattered, ran digital content for North Vancouver apparel powerhouse Arc’teryx, and was Lululemon’s mountain culture project manager.

When you hook a ski in deep powder under the chairlift and hear someone sh*t-talk you from above, that’s Proctor. He was a judge at the very first ever Intersection, and this year he’s back judging all of you from behind the scenes as this year’s event producer.

Swatch ART + Soul.
