Brian Bielmann
Brian Bielmann is standing up surf/guitar god Jack Johnson to come to the Festival this April and present at the 13th annual Pro Photographer Showdown.
Hawaii-based surf photographer, Brian Bielmann has been hailed for his incredible range and his willingness to risk life and limb to capture action amongst the swells. He’s drowned ten cameras in the service of documenting the scene on Hawaii’s North Shore since 1975, proving himself the master of the moment and an endlessly inventive shooter - his work has appeared on the cover of every major surf magazine in the world and he is staff photographer for Transworld Surf.
Bielmann says that getting the shot in surf photography is “all about reacting and having confidence and not thinking too much. The macho photographers who shoot fisheye, they’re all impressed by the heaviest situation. But I don’t see it that way. I don’t look for how hard a photo was to get, I just look at the end result.”
