The creative playing field is leveled at Whistler’s annual OLYMPUS 72hr Filmmaker Showdown. In Gnarnia, it’s all about going hard or going home. But when this IS your home, and your passion, then it’s all on. Post-production trickery, exotic locations, superstar talent and big budget advantages are made irrelevant when filmmakers are tasked to shoot, edit and produce a 3-5 minute short film within 100km radius of Whistler over the course of 72 hours. Relying purely on originality, craft, speed and endurance, the OLYMPUS 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown distills the art of film-making into its purest form – taking creative vision from concept to reality in record time in order for it to be enjoyed on the big screen by an 1800-strong audience. The OLYMPUS 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown gives deadline a whole new meaning; get ‘er done or go you're out.
Props will rule once more in 2012- In the interest of keeping the OLYMPUS 72hr Filmmaker Showdown contest as authentic a playing field for creative talent as possible, each team will be required to incorporate a surprise PROP, of the Festival Producers’ choosing, into their films. The prop will be revealed at the Mandatory Directors Meeting.
An esteemed review panel will choose the best films from scores of entries for screening at the Gala Screening in Whistler, BC on Tuesday, April 17th as part of the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival. One winner, Best of Show, will be chosen by an expert panel of judges to reap the rewards this exposure will result in. Best of Show will also win $10,000 in cold hard cash & $5,000 in prizes including the OM-D model EM-5 digital interchangeable lens camera and the M.Zuiko 12mm-50mm EZ lens (50mm-100mm equivalent) from Olympus!
The Filmmaker Second Cuts Screening- following the OLYMPUS 72hr Filmmaker Gala, this Second Cuts Screening ensures that all completed films get their moment on the big screen, alongside a re-screening of the finalists and winner. Ultimate movie marathon meets wrap-party meets a celebration of the Muses at Filmmaker Second Cuts. Please Note – the Second Cuts Screening will be held from Noon-3pm on Wednesday, April 18th, 2012.
