The early bird gets the tickets
An hour ago there were 20 tickets left, now there are 14. No, wait, 13 - 12 - 10 - ok, almost sold out.
The Olympus Filmmaker Showdown sold out in a record 11 days, and the Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown will be shutting its doors today, just 20 days after the TWSSF e-store opened for business for 2012.
It is no secret that these two events are the most popular ticketed indoor events at the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, and open to sold out audiences on both nights. However, with record breaking sale times in 2012, it's high time for people to discover their other options, just in case they made the fatal mistake of living under a snow-covered rock for the past 20 days.
Intersection: our newest addition to the multi-media line-up, and a mind-blowing success in its inaugural year of 2011. Attracting some of the biggest names in ski and snowboard filmmaking, this event tasks teams with producing a 5-7 minute edit from footage filmed over the 7 days prior. Vicinity regulations mean that the footage must be all from within 100km of Whistler, 75% must be on-snow, and must include park and in-bound terrain. These requirements meant that the completed films were not only of incredibly high standards, but were truly representative of the varied capabilities of the teams and creative visions that they all possessed. Voleurz took the crown in 2011, who will be up to the challenge in 2012? Whistler Conference Centre, Wednesday April 18th, $20
Fashion EXPOSED: 2012 is supposedly the end of the world, according to the Mayans. Fashion EXPOSED is here to ask the question; What will YOU be wearing at the end of the world? Fashion EXPOSED takes some of the top design houses from the action sports fashion industry and puts them on the runway alongside hip hop and street dancers competing in the Freeze Dance Contest. A full on assault on the senses, Fashion EXPOSED and Freeze Dance showcases the core and authentic from both sides of the tracks. WCC, Friday April 20th, $15
2nd Cuts Filmmaker Showdown: not everyone makes the cut for the official Filmmaker Showdown, but the blood, sweat and tears that have been put into all of these films are clearly evident. Showcasing a variety of talents and a diverse agglomeration of creative vision and concepts, this is an event with passion, drive and a sack full of laughs. WCC, Wednesday April 18th, $10
Pecha Kucha: Presenting the most explosive, up to the minute form of public speaking and entertainment, Pecha Kucha, loosely meaning ‘chit chat’ in Japanese, tasks presenters with the challenge of communicating their thoughts, ideas and concepts in short bursts of 20 x 20 second Power Point slides. Think Twitter meets Skype meets Facebook, all in real life, all in real time.
Showcasing some of the funniest, smartest and most entertaining minds at the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, Pecha Kucha opens doors, and minds, to new and thought provoking concepts. Maxx Fish, Monday April 16th, $10 (includes a drink)
Chairlift Revue: Nowhere else is it more acceptable to talk to strangers, and even share candy, than on a chairlift. The opportunities that arise from a solid 15 minutes dangling above vast snow fields are endless and incredible. Enter, the Chairlift Revue. With some of Whistler’s best writers lending their insights and humor to the cause, a number of short plays emerge, to tackle sticky and pertinent subject matters all set on a 4 person chairlift with essential working safety bar. Rainbow Theatre, Sunday April 22nd, $10
Silent Disco: The ultimate dance party experience... with no noise! Headphones allow you to pick from three live DJs who will be spinning a variety of awesome tunes, and enable you to choose your groove from moment to moment. GLC, Friday April 21st, $15
The END: DJs, light shows, a 4am finish. This is ultimate way to end your TWSSF days of debauchery. DJ Longwalkshortdock is already confirmed, with headliners to be announced shortly. The latest, hottest, most intense event you’ve experience. Don’t miss out. WCCm Saturday April 21st, $35
